Overview

Fanback is a Chrome extension that helps YouTube creators reply to comments using AI. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains clearly what data we touch, what we don't, and how we handle everything in between.

What data we collect

When you use the Fanback extension, the following information is sent to our backend to generate a reply:

  • The text of the YouTube comment you are replying to
  • The title of the video the comment is on
  • Your YouTube channel name

This data is used solely to generate a contextually appropriate reply via the Claude AI API (Anthropic). It is not stored, logged, or associated with any user account.

If you join our waitlist, we collect your email address via Formspree. This is used only to notify you about Fanback updates and launch. We will never sell or share your email with third parties.

How the extension works locally

Fanback operates entirely within your browser on studio.youtube.com. The extension:

  • Reads comment text from the YouTube Studio page you are already viewing
  • Injects UI buttons into the YouTube Studio interface
  • Sends comment data to our backend only when you click "AI Reply" or "Generate All Replies"

Fanback does not access any other tabs, websites, or browser data. It does not run in the background when YouTube Studio is not open.

Third-party services

Fanback uses the following third-party services:

  • Anthropic (Claude API) — Processes comment text to generate replies. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
  • Formspree — Handles waitlist email submissions. Subject to Formspree's Privacy Policy.
  • Railway — Hosts our backend server. Data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS. No comment data is persisted on Railway.

Data retention

We do not store comment text, video titles, or channel names. Each API request is stateless — once a reply is generated and returned to your browser, the data is discarded. We have no database of your YouTube content.

Cookies and tracking

The Fanback landing page and extension do not use cookies, analytics scripts, or any third-party tracking tools. We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or similar services.

Children's privacy

Fanback is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information through our waitlist, please contact us and we will remove it immediately.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the product evolves. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Fanback after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
